Sox restore order in epic rout

The heart of the Red Sox order beat loud and clear Tuesday, as David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek combined to go 16-for-19 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in a rout of the Devil Rays. Curt Schilling earned the win as Boston stayed a half-game ahead of the Yankees in the AL East.

The Devil Rays were unable to play the part of spoiler for a second night, as the Red Sox bounced back with five homers Tuesday, including four off starter Seth McClung in his two-plus innings. On the bright side, Jorge Cantu set the club's RBI record (108) with a first-inning solo homer.
