Late Fish rally not enough
In a game played under protest due to a lighting outage at Shea, the Marlins were able to take a lead in the eighth inning on consecutive pinch-hit singles by Lenny Harris and Josh Willingham. The bullpen couldn't hold on, however, as reliever Paul Quantrill allowed the game-winning hit in the ninth.

The Mets answered the Marlins' late rally with one of their own, tying the game in the eighth inning and winning it in the ninth. Jose Reyes singled and reached second base on an error, and he came home on Miguel Cairo's RBI single. Mike Piazza reached in all four plate appearances and drove in the tying run in the eighth inning.
