Hot-to-Trot Sox pull it out
Hank's heroics not enough
Hank Blalock was undaunted by dominant Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, lining an RBI single to plate the tying run in the eighth. However, Francisco Cordero gave that run back a half-inning later, as the Rangers lost the opener of a four-game series in Boston. Vicente Padilla pitched well, allowing three runs in seven innings.

Series at a glance:
Nixon's four hits lead way
Trot Nixon went 4-for-4, including a three-run homer in the first inning, and Tim Wakefield pitched well against the Rangers, but Jonathan Papelbon blew his first save chance in the eighth inning. This set up Mike Lowell's sacrifice fly, which drove in the eventual winning run. Papelbon struck out the side in the ninth for the victory.
