Jose Vidro and Jose Guillen hit solo homers for the Nationals, but it wasn't enough as they dropped the opener of a three-game Interleague Series at Fenway. Tony Armas took the loss for the Nats, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Kyle Snyder was solid in his Red Sox debut, allowing three runs on four hits over five innings as Boston held off the Nats at Fenway Park. Snyder struck out six and walked none as the Sox opened up a nine-game homestand by winning their fourth straight game.
