A happy 50th in Motown
Cards lose fifth straight
St. Louis was on its way to breaking its four-game losing streak, but closer Jason Isringhausen was unable to hold a two-run lead in the ninth, and Tyler Johnson came on in the 10th inning to give up the winning run to Placido Polanco. The blown save was Isringhausen's fifth of the year.

Clutch at-bats for Detroit
Detroit won No. 50 in dramatic fashion, when Marcus Thames hit a game-tying two-run homer in the ninth to send the game to extra innings. After the first two Tigers got out in the 10th, Curtis Granderson walked and Placido Polanco hit an RBI double to drive him in for the winning run.
