Mark Ellis knocked in five runs, including a two-run homer and a two-run double, and Milton Bradley had three RBIs in a win over the Red Sox. The A's tallied 16 hits, battering starter Josh Beckett and the Boston bullpen, and Barry Zito held the Red Sox to two runs in five-plus innings.
Josh Beckett exited after 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits and four walks. Relievers Javier Lopez and Julian Tavarez didn't fare any better, combining to give up eight runs. Coco Crisp and Kevin Youkilis each knocked in a run in the sixth, but the rally stopped there.
