Mad skills: LA takes opener
Boomer outdueled in LA
David Wells stepped up with a solid outing on Friday, but unfortunately for the Padres, Greg Maddux was better as the Dodgers took the opener of the crucial weekend set. San Diego is now 1 1/2 games behind Los Angeles in the NL West, and 1 1/2 games in front of Philadelphia for the Wild Card.

Dodgers extend West lead
Greg Maddux might prove to be the best in-season acquisition in the Major Leagues this season. Maddux held the Padres hitless for 6 1/3 innings Friday, finishing with seven one-hit innings, as the Dodgers pushed their National League West lead to 1 1/2 games over second-place San Diego.
