Steve Trachsel lasted just one-plus inning, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks before exiting with a thigh contusion after being hit by a batted ball. Darren Oliver was admirable in relief, but the Mets mustered just three hits in St. Louis, and now face a 2-1 NLCS deficit.

Jeff Suppan shut out the Mets on three hits over eight innings and added a solo home run to his masterpiece, leading the Cardinals to a 2-1 NLCS lead. Scott Spiezio hit his second two-run triple in as many games to jump-start the Redbirds offensively.
