Chris Carpenter allowed just two runs in six solid innings, but the Cardinals could get virtually nothing going against the Mets and missed a chance to advance to the World Series. So Taguchi hit a two-run double in the ninth as the Redbirds tried to rally, but that was all they could muster.

Rookie starter John Maine shut out the Cardinals on two hits in 5 1/3 innings, as the Mets evened the NLCS and pulled within one win of the World Series. Jose Reyes homered in the first, Shawn Green added an RBI single and Paul Lo Duca's two-run single in the seventh put Game 6 away.
