Daisuke Matsuzaka lived up to the hype, as he recorded 10 strikeouts over seven innings and allowed just one run in a 108-pitch outing. The right-hander yielded a first-inning single, but he then didn't allow another hit until the fifth.

Zack Greinke allowed two runs and eight hits, but he came up short in a pitchers' duel with Daisuke Matsuzaka. David DeJesus greeted the Japanese senstation with a first-inning single and then went deep in the sixth. Alex Gordon also notched his first hit.
