Jeff Weaver's first game as a Mariner didn't go quite as planned, as he lasted just two innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits. Meanwhile, Seattle's hitters had no answer for Boston's Josh Beckett, who held them to one run over seven innings. In the ninth, Richie Sexson hit a two-run double.
