A day after collecting 15 runs on 20 hits, the Mariners managed next to nothing at the plate against Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang, who didn't allow a baserunner until Ben Broussard homered with one out in the eighth inning. Jeff Weaver held his former team to a run until the Yankees scored five in the sixth inning.

Chien-Ming Wang carried a perfect game through 7 1/3 innings before a Ben Broussard homer broke up his bid to become the fourth pitcher in club history to achieve perfection. Wang lasted eight innings, the longest for a Yankees starter this season.
