Cleveland rocked: Tigers split
Bonderman, Sheffield star
Gary Sheffield got the Tigers off to a great start with a two-run homer in the first inning, and after allowing two early runs, Jeremy Bonderman was dominant as Detroit earned a split in its four-game series in Cleveland. Jason Grilli put the game away after a 17-minute rain delay in the ninth.

Series at a glance:
Dour day for Sowers
Victor Martinez stayed red-hot, blasting a two-run homer in the first inning, but Jeremy Bonderman shut the Tribe down otherwise, and Jeremy Sowers was hit hard in a rocky four-inning stint. The Tigers secured a 2-2 split in the four-game series, but the Indians stayed 2 1/2 games ahead of them in the American League Central.
