The Pirates showed no fear early on against Roger Clemens in his season debut, scoring a run in the first inning and tying the game at 3 in the fourth, but a pair of errors and a series of other lapses in the field were too much to overcome. Paul Maholm allowed five runs (three earned) in the loss. Catcher Ronny Paulino allowed five steals.

Making his first start with the Yankees since 2003, Roger Clemens encountered little trouble, holding the Pirates to three runs and striking out seven batters in six innings to pick up the win and extend the Yankees' win streak to a season-high five games.
