Mike Maroth was not nearly as sharp in his second start in a Cardinals uniform on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati as he was in his first against the Mets, but it didn't matter very much. The Redbirds batters, led by Ryan Ludwick's two long balls, had their starter's back.

Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 22nd homer of the season, a three-run shot, in the third inning on Sunday. Brandon Phillips' two-run homer preceded Junior's, and David Ross' solo shot came later. Still, the six runs generated by those long balls were not enough on this day.
