The Nationals scored three runs in the middle innings and never relinquished the lead as they left Pittsburgh with their first win in their last six games. Mike Bacsik pitched one of his best games, allowing just one earned run on five hits in six innings. Jesus Flores had two hits, including his first Major League home run.

Paul Maholm allowed nine hits on Sunday but escaped several bases-loaded jams to allow just three runs over seven innings. The Pirates offense managed just five hits against a stingy Mike Bacsik, with Adam LaRoche collecting three of them.
