John Maine endured his shortest outing of the season, allowing six earned runs on four hits, three walks and a hit batsman -- all in the third inning. Maine left after 2 2/3, allowing the six runs to cross the plate with two outs in the frame. Moises Alou was the lone bright spot for the Mets, clubbing two solo homers off Ted Lilly.

Six-run third fuels win By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com
Spinning a little two-out magic, the Cubs parlayed four hits, three walks and a hit batsman into six third-inning runs that gave starter Ted Lilly all the offense he would need. Lilly threw 7 2/3 innings, striking out eight and allowing just two runs on two Moises Alou solo homers. With the win, Lilly improved to 12-5 on the season.
