Left-hander Ted Lilly allowed just four hits in six innings, but unfortunately for the Cubs, one was a homer by Arizona first baseman Conor Jackson. Lilly struck out eight and didn't walk a batter. The Cubs' only run came on Aramis Ramirez's single in the sixth inning.
Conor Jackson hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, all the runs the D-backs would need to beat the Cubs. Jackson's hit made a winner of starter Doug Davis, who allowed one run in seven sharp innings. Davis struck out eight and allowed just six hits.
