Brad Penny allowed three homers while gutting out six innings, but kept the Dodgers in the game because all were of the solo variety. The righty also knocked home and scored a run, but the bullpen let the game slip away on another long ball in the eighth inning.
Brad Hawpe's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning helped the Rockies win their fourth straight and vault past the Dodgers in the Wild Card race. Matt Holliday went deep twice to give him 10 homers in 11 games and a career-high 35 for the season.
