The Rockies remained one game behind the Padres and moved into a tie with the Phillies in the Wild Card standings after surviving a seesaw affair against the Dodgers. Colorado twice squandered two-run leads, but Troy Tulowitzki's two-run homer finally put the Rox in front for good.
Brad Penny was denied his career-high 17th victory by the Rockies for the second time in less than a week as the Dodgers were officially eliminated from contention. Chin-Lung Hu and James Loney each belted homers to erase Colorado leads, but L.A. could not mount a third comeback.
