Yanks inch closer to Sox
Hughes delivers again
The Yankees closed the gap at the top of the American League East to two games thanks to their victory over the Rays and Boston's loss to Minnesota. Phil Hughes gave New York a fine start, allowing just one run on four hits. Jose Molina had the game's decisive hit, a two-run single that plated Shelley Duncan and Robinson Cano.

Series at a glance:
Kazmir king of the Ks
Though the Rays lost, Scott Kazmir showed once again why he is one of the game's best young pitchers. The lefty allowed just three hits and struck out 10 en route to grabbing the MLB lead from Johan Santana. Carlos Pena hit his 44th homer, but that was all the runs the Rays would score off New York pitching.
