Tim Wakefield brought a lifetime 19-3 record into the tilt at the Trop, but that dominance did not extend into the series opener, as the knuckleballer gave up four runs on six hits. He was handed a lead in the second, when the Sox batted around and battered Matt Garza, but the Rays forced extras and walked off with the win.
