B.J. Upton homered on the first pitch in the first, setting the tone early as the Rays backed James Shields' strong outing. Gabe Gross also went deep, while Tampa Bay withstood a Boston rally in the ninth -- and an injury to Troy Percival -- and increased its AL East lead to 1 1/2 games.
