A series of stellar defensive plays kept James Shields out of trouble early, and the Rays eventually broke through against Ervin Santana. Then in the eighth inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Willy Aybar stroked a two-run single that provided the margin in a victory that gave the Rays the best record in the AL.
