Looking to put a dent in the Twins' playoff hopes, the Royals instead were unable to recover from an early deficit after a rocky outing by starter Brian Bannister, who came up short in his 13th attempt at victory No. 8. The right-hander was touched for runs in each of the four frames in which he worked.
