Dallas Braden allowed five earned runs over four-plus innings and Cliff Pennington knocked home Oakland's only run as the A's offense was unable to capitalize in the opener of a four-game set against the second-place Rangers -- pushing Oakland's hopes of obtaining second place in the AL West further away.
