Brad Penny struggled in his return to L.A., where he pitched from 2004-08. The right-hander gave up three homers, including a first-inning grand slam, and seven runs in 2 2/3 innings, taking his first loss in four starts with the Giants. Randy Johnson made his first outing since July 5, pitching to three batters in relief.
