Justin Verlander appeared to be on the verge of slaying his Metrodome demons until they reared in the eighth when outfielder Don Kelly lost a ball in the lights. The Orlando Cabrera double opened the door for the Twins to score five runs and reduce the Tigers' AL Central lead to two games. Placido Polanco had four hits.
