Though they were defeated, the Rays were never out of the ballgame. After falling behind for the first time, Tampa Bay scored twice in the sixth, but Dan Wheeler surrendered the decisive home run in the eighth. Jeff Niemann put up a quality start, but the Rays were unable to get him a win.
