Each year the wives of the Oakland A's players and coaches volunteer their time to help those in need by "teaming up to make a difference". Some of the different events that they have participated in so far this season are:
For the 12th year in a row, the A's wives and Giants wives squared of in a seven-inning contest. In 2010 the game will be held on Saturday, May 22 at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. During the game, a silent auction will be held to benefit Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland and San Francisco General Hospital Children's Services. Both teams' community funds will also make a $2,500 donation to their respective hospital.
The A's raised more than $25,000 at the 10th Annual MUG Root Beer Float Day August 6 with proceeds benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Funds were raised through the sale of root beer floats, tips given in exchange for autographs and pictures with the celebrity scoopers, including the A's wives, the sale of autographed mugs and a silent auction of sports memorabilia. Since 2003, the A's have raised over $270,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation through MUG Root Beer Float Day. MUG Root Beer Float Day was sponsored by Pepsi.
