Left-handed pitcher and Tampa Bay Rays ace Scott Kazmir, who recently signed a three-year contract, believes his team has turned the corner and its hot start isn't just an aberration.
"We have everything that we need to play in October. I really think that, and I think everyone believes that. That's just what we need to keep believing," Kazmir told MLBPLAYERS.com in a recent Players Talk show.
Through the first quarter of the season, the Rays are only two games out of first place in the American League East, off to the best start in the franchise's young history.
"We're past the rebuilding stage," Kazmir said. "We're a team that can really compete in the AL East and win games. It's exciting."
After beginning the season on the disabled list with a left elbow strain, Kazmir is back in the rotation and has a 2-1 record in his first three starts with a 1.69 ERA and 14 strikeouts. In 2007, he led the AL with 239 strikeouts in 34 starts.
