Dear Fans,
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I was able to be at home with my family for Christmas, then get away for a short vacation. It seems hard to believe we are already well into January. Next week I'll be traveling to the Dominican Republic for Juan Marichal's Golf Classic. Last year was the first year I attended and I had such a wonderful experience -- the Dominican people are so warm and inviting. The event raises money for Heartcare International, an organization that raises funds to provide medical procedures for children with life-threatening heart diseases.
I'd like to congratulate both Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. on being elected to the Hall of Fame. It is an extreme honor that I know they are both very proud of and excited about sharing this time with their families.
Congratulations are also in store for Gregory Runge of La Mesa, Calif., for winning the Grand Prize in the Barry Bonds Holiday Promotion. I would also like to thank the thousands of fans who registered for the promotion and let you know there will be more in the future. We've been working on some great things for the web site next year, including a "Kids Only" section.
