Hi Fans,
I've been here at spring training for a week now and I am really getting fired up for the season. It's been great seeing my teammates and coaches and being back on the field with them. Many questions have been asked about my knee. I want to let you know it's feeling great -- there's no swelling after exercises or when I wake up in the morning. As for hitting, I'm working on my fundamentals and swing. I feel that the power is there, but I still have to fine tune it within the next few weeks. I'm also spending time on cardio, which is a little different from previous seasons.
I have been working with the Giants trainers everyday and things are coming along really well. The game plan we have put together should have me ready for Opening Day. Some of the stuff we started last week was light running exercises and agility drills. The pace we are working at is just right for me. I'm totally getting into the baseball preparation mode both mentally and physically.
I know you've been hearing a lot about my documentary project and today we officially announced the series. Click here to read the press release on "Bonds on Bonds."
We initiated some of the rookies who have never been in big league camp yesterday and today. As you already know, we held a "Giants Idol" competition, which was our version of "American Idol." I really wanted to have some fun with the guys so I decided to really let loose and go all out. I dressed up as Idol judge Paula Abdul. Ray Durham was Randy and Jeff Fassero was Simon. The guys sang their own songs on top of the dugout with much enthusiasm to their teammates, coaches, media and fans. I was expecting them to be really bad but some of them actually sounded good. I have received some e-mails asking why I dressed in drag. To be honest with you, Mark Sweeney asked me to do it and I thought since this could be my last season why not have fun? From my picture below you see that I'm not as hot as Paula and I have to say it took me about 30 minutes to be "all that." She's an old friend of mine and I have nothing but love and respect for her.
Besides all the e-mails, many of my long lost friends called me, who I haven't spoken with in a while. I guess I had to dress up in drag to get all those calls, but thanks for calling. And for all the movie offers, please contact my agent.
Later,
Barry Bonds
