August 4, 2005 Hello Fans, I would like to start this update with a big thank you to all my fans for the many birthday wishes that I received. The only thing I wanted for my 41st birthday was to be with my wife and three kids. I was able to hang out with them the whole weekend. There is nothing like celebrating special days in your life with the ones you love. One really cool present I received was a "Lensbaby 2.0." This is a small flexible lens for my Canon camera and I've already started shooting pictures with it. There have been a lot of stories going around about my current situation. When I spoke with Barry Bloom from MLB.com, we talked about my current staus and how my rehab was coming along. He reported exactly what I told him -- I'm still unsure of if and when I'll be able to come back this year. This has not changed in the past couple of weeks. I'm working hard on the bike and the elliptical machine, but I'm just not there yet. While I continue to progress, I do not want to push myself to come back sooner and ultimately jeopardize the health of my knee and suffer a setback. However, I still remain optimistic. Last week, I had an MRI and it showed there continues to be a little swelling. Dr. Yokum and my physical therapist have encouraged me to return to the field only when I am able to perform at my normal level. I have to say that there's nothing more I would like to be doing right now than be out on the field with my teammates to make a chase for another Division Title and ultimately a World Series Championship. Ideally, I would be in San Francisco right now whether I could play or not, but the team identified the best rehab sources for me in Dr. Yokum and Clive Brewster here in Los Angeles. My workouts have increased along with my range of motion. I've had a few emails asking what is range of motion? This is when the doctors measure how far I can bend my knee. At the start of rehab a few months ago, it was less than 80 degrees but now I am up in the 130 degree range. This is a substantial increase. I will be able to start baseball activities once the doctors and I agree that there will be no negative effects on my knee. When it comes down to it, if the doctors give me the okay to play, I will play. I am fully confident in their assessment of my knee and trust them wholeheartedly. I appreciate all of you who continue to visit my site and read what is going on with me. Barry Bonds
