Woody's Winter Warm-Up a great success

Event raises more than $100,000 for Chicago's kids

Kerry and Sarah Wood kicked off Cubs Convention weekend with our annual Woody's Winter Warm-Up fundraiser on Friday, Jan. 17 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Harry Caray's Tavern Navy Pier. A huge success, the event showcased players, celebrities and media personalities as "guest bartenders" mixing drinks and competing for tips to successfully raise over $100,000 for the Wood Family Foundation (WFF).

WGN Radio's Pete McMurray and 24-7 Chicago host Catie Keogh served as emcees while social columnist Candace Jordan and WFF scholarship winner Gaby Santoyo interviewed celebrity guests on the red carpet. Governor Pat Quinn kicked the evening off by introducing the Woods and highlighting their community involvement through the foundation.

Guests enjoyed meet-and-greet opportunities with Chicago Cubs players (both past and present) as well as a premium open bar, dinner buffet, raffle, silent auction and musical entertainment by pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph. In addition, international expressionist speed painter Elliott From wowed the crowd of 500 with his live performance painting, creating the mascot for the Chicago Blackhawks, which was sold in the live auction for $3,700.

A trip to Spring Training was featured in the live auction and sold for $4,500. A spot on the celebrity team for Woody's Wiffle Ball Classic went for $3,250. The evening came to a close with popular local band Lovehammers performing songs from their latest album and hosting a mini jam session where Windy City LIVE's Ryan Chiaverini joined them on stage!

"What a great night of people coming together. Musicians, media personalities, fans, and players, to have a good time while helping us raise money for the children of Chicago," Wood explained. "My wife, Sarah, and I want to thank everyone that came out for this year's Warm-Up. Without their support, our foundation wouldn't be able to do what we do."

Attendees included Anna Davlantes (Fox), Allison Rosati (NBC), Kathy Hart (Eric & Kathy), Eric Ferguson (Eric & Kathy), Ryan Chiaverini (Windy City LIVE), David Kaplan (Comcast SportsNet), Peggy Kusinski (NBC), Lou Canellis (Fox), Sarah Spain (ESPN radio), Rob Johnson (CBS), Showbiz Shelley (B96), Danni Allen (winner of The Biggest Loser), Jeanne Sparrow (WCIU), DC Crenshaw (, Whitney Reynolds (The Whitney Reynolds Show), Mindie Kaplan (Sun Times Happy Hour with Mindie), Jane Monzures (FM 101), Kelly Crull (Comcast), Mark Prior, Jim Bullinger, Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer, Tom Ricketts, Kris Bryant, Starlin Castro, Edwin Jackson, Brooks Raley, Justin Ruggiano, Anthony Rizzo, Jeff Samardzija, James Russell, and many more.
