WFF to host Wiffle ball at Wrigley Field

Kerry Wood announces Woody's Wiffle Ball Classic

CHICAGO -- As baseball season opens, retired Cub Kerry Wood is entertaining another type of ball game: Wiffle ball. Today, alongside the Wood Family Foundation, Wood announced a "call for teams" for the First Annual Woody's Wiffle Ball Classic taking place at Wrigley Field on Saturday, Aug. 10. Sixteen corporate teams will compete on four fields (Fenway, Yankee, Wrigley, Field of Dreams) complete with backdrops and bleachers in an all-day double elimination tournament to become Chicago's Wiffle Ball Classic champion. Each team will be guaranteed at least two games and require up to 10 roster players in company logo uniforms.

Following the championship game, Wrigley will turn up the lights and music for the "Celebrity Home Run Derby," pitched by Kerry himself and culminate with the "Wiffle for a Diffle" celebrity game in which some of Chicago's favorite celebrities will showcase their batting and fielding skills. As the event comes to a close, all teams, sponsors and celebrities will head to John Barleycorn in Wrigleyville for a postgame party and awards ceremony.

"We are so excited to be hosting an event unique to Chicago. Who doesn't love Wiffle ball? And being able to play Wiffle ball on Wrigley Field? There's going to be nothing like it," Wood said. "We really wanted to find something to replace the excitement generated from our yearly Strike Zone bowling event, and with the evening celebrity home run derby and celebrity Wiffle ball game to cap off the day, this will definitely be our new, must-attend event."

About the Wood Family Foundation: The Wood Family Foundation (WFF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in June 2011 by Kerry and his wife Sarah.
