Kerry honored as 2011 Father of the Year
Illinois Fatherhood Initiative bestows special award

On June 16, 2011, the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative hosted the Father of the Year Awards. This year, they honored Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, stand-up comedian Tom Dreesen, former Chicago Bears defensive end Richard Dent and our very own Kerry Wood.
Kerry is a devoted husband of 10 years and a loving father to three adoring children. He has always put family first, even when dealing with the rigors of being a professional baseball player. In the words of his wife, Sarah, "Even when he is exhausted from traveling, he is always willing to play with the kids -- he has never once said no to them."
This dedication to his family is the main reason he decided to return to Chicago and finish out his career as a Cub and the reason he was honored with this award. On top of being a great father to his kids, Kerry has helped raise over $2 million for Chicago children's charities. He plans to use the Wood Family Foundation as an outlet to help as many of Chicago's kids as he can.
