The Padres are honored to be able to support and pay tribute to the San Diego military community. The team's efforts began in November in 1995 with the establishment of the Padres' Military Affairs Department, the first in professional sports.
Every season the Padres honor all branches of the US Armed Forces and take the title "Team for the Military" very seriously. To learn when a specific branch is being honored please click here.
The Padres are committed to ensuring that baseball in San Diego will remain an affordable entertainment option for military families.
We are proud to offer appreciation pricing to members of the military (active, reserve, retired and DOD employees) for all regular season Padres home games. On Sunday home games, military in uniform can receive a 50% discount on tickets. Padres tickets are also sold at MWR/MCCS locations throughout the county. Click here to learn more about these programs and ticket locations.
Those who served but did not continue in the military until retirement can still receive military appreciation pricing through the Padres Veterans Appreciation Card. Click here for more details.
Padres Season Ticket Holders who are also active-duty military members are secure in knowing that if they are in the receipt of PCS orders outside the San Diego area prior to the season's end, they will be accommodated. If a Season Ticket Holder is deployed, the Padres will hold onto a copy of the orders and keep the account active at no charge for one year should they return as Season Ticket Holders. The Padres also refund any future games still in the account holder's possession.
During the 2000 season, the Padres awarded lifetime passes to regular season home games to more than 700 World War II and Korean War POWs in Southern California and around the nation. We are the only MLB team to participate in this ongoing project.
In 2000, Padres players began wearing military-inspired camouflage jerseys on Military Opening Day. Wearing these jerseys (now in its 13th year) has become an important tradition for the Team for the Military and they are now worn for Military Opening Day and for every Sunday home game.
Flight Deck behind Right Field
Our longtime Director of Military Affairs, Captain John C. (Jack) Ensch, USN, Ret. researched and developed a Military Honor Wall which pays tribute to all Major League Baseball and Negro League baseball players who ever served in the military. This wall, along with a large scale model of the USS Midway, acts as the centerpieces of the Flight Deck area of Petco Park.
The Padres are the only MLB team to host a Military Opening Day. This special day includes military-themed pregame ceremonies and in-game segments. This special day also allows our players to give a visual salute to the military by wearing their camouflage jerseys and hosting more than 5,000 service members and their families as our guests to the game.
The Padres were the first professional sports team to fly the POW/MIA flag at all home games.
We are happy to accommodate a reenlistment or retirement ceremony prior to a Padres home game. Click here to learn more.
In 2010 the Padres introduced their new military logo based on the US military aircraft national identification roundel insignia. In keeping with the commitment to ensure that baseball is an affordable option we offer an $8.00 Padres cap and $10.00 t-shirt for sale at the Padres Team Store and throughout the ballpark. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from our military merchandise sales goes to military charities.
Marine Recruit Sundays continue to be a popular day at Petco Park. Learn more about this by clicking here.
