Special Season Ticket Holder Message from Jack Zduriencik

Dear Season Ticket Holder,

Jack Zduriencik
With five weeks left in the 2011 Mariners Baseball season, I would like to take a few minutes to give you and all Mariners Season Ticket Holders a report on the progress we've made in building the foundation for a championship-caliber team.

As you know, there has been a lot of activity over the past month, and we have acquired a lot of young talent, both in terms of quality and quantity.

In the deadline trades with Detroit and Boston, we acquired six young players, of which four have already joined our Major League club (Casper Wells, Charlie Furbush, Chance Ruffin and Trayvon Robinson).

Last week we introduced our top two draft picks to Seattle and the Northwest (first-rounder pitcher Danny Hultzen and second-rounder shortstop Brad Miller). Overall, we signed 24 of our top 25 picks and 43 of our 51 total picks. In addition, we announced the signing of two of the very best available international prospects, both 16 year-olds from Venezuela (pitcher Victor Sanchez and outfielder Jose Leal).

Our scouts have been busy and productive, and this fits perfectly into our short-term and long-term plans. The depth of talented young players is important because it gives us a better chance to produce quality big leaguers, and at the same time, to trade for specific needs.

Looking back on this season, we surprised a lot of people during the first three months of the season, which was fun for all of us. And we certainly underperformed in July, which was no fun for any of us. Our baseball in August has been better, with the offense putting more runs on the board.

Through it all, we have been impressed by the leadership of Manager Eric Wedge and our coaching staff. They have guided us through this season that featured the Major League debuts of many rookies and the emergence of several young players, many of them home-grown talent, led by Michael Pineda, Dustin Ackley, Mike Carp and Kyle Seager to name a few. Along with young veterans like Ichiro, Felix Hernandez, Brendan Ryan and Brandon League, this group of young players promises to be the cornerstone of our foundation.

Thank you so much for being a Season Ticket Holder this year. Over the final month of the season, we hope you will enjoy watching our young talent compete against Major League competition as we prepare for a bright future. We are focused on the goal, and your support is an important part of the effort.

Sincerely yours,
Jack Zduriencik Signature
