Junior Giants is part of Major League Baseball's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) youth outreach program designed to give underserved youth the opportunity to play baseball and softball, encourage academic success and teach the value of teamwork. Since 1989, the RBI program has served more than 1 million young people worldwide with the additional goal of preparing young, underserved athletes to play at the collegiate and professional levels. Major League Baseball and its Clubs have contributed more than $30 million worth of resources to the RBI program, and Clubs have drafted more than 190 RBI participants, including 14 players selected in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. In 2013, RBI programs will serve over 210,000 boys and girls (ages 5-18) in more than 225 leagues established in more than 200 cities around the world.
