On March 2, with blue skies and the sun shining brightly, the Rays kicked off the Rays Charity Golf Classic Presented by Avantair at The Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club in Bradenton. Rays players and coaches were matched with foursomes who competed for the 2012 Charity Golf Tournament crown.
First place was taken by BJ Upton's team from ADVANTICA which included Sean McCormick, Andy Davis, Rylan Sanchez and Ross Sanchez. Only two strokes behind them was David Price's team consisting of the Rays Ownership Group. Third place was taken by Jim Hickey's team from Sun Sports. The longest drive of the day belonged to Andy Davis from the winning team of ADVANTICA, whose drive exceeded 350 yards.
The day was a victory not only for Upton, but for the Rays Baseball Foundation which raised close to $200,000 to benefit youth and education programs in the Tampa Bay area. The Tampa Bay Rays and the Rays Baseball Foundation would like to thank everyone who participated especially Avantair, Pepsi, Sun Sports, Kayem, Captain Morgan, and Anheuser Busch.
