Begins his 13th season in the D-backs' organization and second as bullpen coach. Spent 11 years in the D-backs' system as pitching coach at Short Season-A Yakima (2002), Class-A Lancaster (2003), Double-A El Paso (2004), Advanced Rookie Missoula (2005-06) and Minor League Pitching Coordinator (2007- 09, '11-13). Served as pitching coach with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2001.
Playing Career
Went 25-24 with 24 saves and a 3.50 ERA in 122 Minor League games (57 starts) in the Astros (1985-87) and Royals' (1987-90) organizations. Made 13 appearances (2 starts) with Kansas City in 1990, going 0-1 with a 4.88 ERA…made his Major League debut on July 17, 1990 @ Yankees. Selected by Houston in the frst round (third overall) in the 1985 MLB January Draft-Secondary Phase…chosen by Seattle in the 28th round of the 1982 June Amateur Draft but did not sign.

Melvin Leon (Mel) Stottlemyre, Jr ... He and his wife, Lisa, have three children, Maleigha, Colton and Blaise ... Comes from a baseball family...his father, Mel Sr., was an All-Star pitcher and three-time 20-game winner with the New York Yankees from 1964-74 and later served as a pitching coach for the Yankees from 1996-2005 and the Mariners in 2008 and was also a Spring Training advisor for the D-backs in 2007...his brother, Todd, pitched in the Major Leagues for 15 seasons, including four with the D-backs from 1999-2002.
