Fredi González enters third season as Marlins' third-base coach. Previously spent five-plus seasons managing Atlanta Braves...With Atlanta, posted a career 434-413 record. Finished in top five in BBWAA Manager of the Year voting in three of five-plus seasons with Braves, including third-place finish in 2013..In 2013, led Braves to 96-66 record and National League East division title. 96 wins were most by any Braves team since 2003 (101)...Also led Atlanta to NL East title in 2012, going 94-68...Prior to time in Atlanta, managed Marlins for three-plus seasons from 2007-2010...Guided Marlins to 276-279 record, holding record for most games managed, while his 276 wins are second-most behind Jack McKeon (281)...In 2009, finished second in NL East with 87-75 record, the thirdmost wins in a single season in franchise history and second straight season with a record over .500. Finished 6.0 GB of division-leading Philadelphia...Earned Sporting News National League Manager of the Year in 2008 after leading Marlins to 84-77 record. The 84 wins marked the fourth-most in a single-season in Club history, behind 1997 (92), 2003 (91) and '09...Named Marlins' manager on Oct. 3, 2006 and went 71-91 in debut season. Served as a coach for National League at 2007 All-Star game in San Francisco, under Tony La Russa...Served as third base coach under Bobby Cox in Atlanta from 2003-06, and managed Braves' Triple-A Richmond in 2002...Managed seven seasons in Marlins organization, from 1992-98, and served as third base coach at Major League level from 1999- 2001...Selected by Baseball America as Eastern League Manager of the Year in 1997 after posting a 73-69 record with Single-A Portland. Also recognized by Baseball America as Florida State League Manager of the Year in 1994, after going 78-61 with Brevard County (A) and finishing second to Tampa in FSL championship series... In 1993, guided Single-A High Desert to an 85-52 mark en route to becoming California League Champions, first-ever championship by a Marlins' affiliate. Was named Baseball America's California League Manager of the Year that season and received Carl Barger Player Development Person of the Year award...Began coaching career in 1990 after taking over unaffiliated Single-A Miami Miracle of Florida State League with 20 games remaining. Managed Miracle in 1991 before being named manager at Single-A Erie, becoming first minor league manager in Marlins history. Led Erie to New York-Penn League Championship series.
PLAYING CAREER
Selected by Yankees in 16th round of 1982 June draft and spent six seasons as catcher in Yankees' system...In six-year career, posted lifetime average of .199 (188x945) with 20 home runs and 118 RBI...Made professional debut with Single-A Bradenton in 1982, batting .240 (31x129) with two home runs and 16 RBI in 40 games.

Fredi Jesus González...he and wife Patricia have five children between them; Gabrielle, Alex, Christina, Erica and Juliette... has actively raised funds for Cindy Donald Dreams of Recovery Foundation (www.dreamsofrecovery.org), which helps to create a positive change for individuals facing challenges accompanying spinal cord and/or brain injuries...graduated from Miami's Southridge High School in 1982.
