Dave Trembley enters his second full season as the Orioles manager after guiding the Orioles to a 68-93 record in his first full season in 2008After working 22 years in professional baseball, including 20 years as a minor league manager, Trembley was promoted to the Orioles major league staff as bullpen coach and field coordinator prior to the 2007 seasonBecause of health issues with bench coach Tom Trebelhorns wife, Trembley spent much of the first 2 1/2 months of the season in the dugout instead of the bullpen, serving as de facto bench coach to manager Sam PerlozzoOn June 18, 2007, with the Orioles holding a 29-40 record, Trembley was named interim manager, replacing PerlozzoOn August 22, the interim label was removed and Trembley was rewarded with a contract for 2008 and an option for 2009The Orioles played well for two months under Trembleys charge (29-25 through August 21) before injuries and a lack of depth caught up with them over the final 5 1/2 weeks of the seasonThey finished 40-53 with Trembley as managerIn 2008, his club again fared well until mid-August, sporting a 61-63 record through August 17Similar to 2007, a rash of injuries decimated the Orioles pitching staff and the club lost 30 of their last 37 games. Prior to being promoted to the big league club, Dave compiled a 1369-1413 record, won two league titles and earned Manager of the Year awards in three leagues in 20 years managing in the minorsIn December 2001, Baseball America selected him as one of minor league baseballs top five managers of the previous 20 years. He served as a coach in the inaugural Futures Game in 1999 and also served as manager for the Southern League and Double-A All-Star Games that seasonTrembley worked in the Cubs, Pirates and Padres organizations before being named manager of the Orioles AA Bowie team in 2003In his first season with Bowie, he guided the team to a 13 1/2-game improvement over the previous season and was named winner of the organizations Cal Ripken Sr. Player Development Award...In two years at Bowie, his teams went 142-141He managed the Orioles AAA team at Ottawa in 2005 and 2006, combining to go 143-144Trembley began his career in 1977 as a teacher and baseball coach at Daniel Murphy High School in Los Angeles...In 1980, he became head baseball coach at Antelope Valley College, a junior college in the Los Angeles areaHe spent five years in that position before beginning his career in professional baseball as a Los Angeles area scout for the Chicago Cubs in 1984The next season, he became an instructor in the Cubs minor league system until June, when he was named to coach at their Wytheville (VA) club in the Appalachian LeagueTrembley managed in the minors for the next 21 years, except for 1990 when he served as director of the day-to-day operation of Pittsburghs minor league complex and spring training facility at Bradenton, FLHe began his managing career with the independent Kinston team in the Class A Carolina League in 1986He joined the Pirates organization in 1987, guiding AA Harrisburg to the Eastern League title, earning EL Manager of the Year honors and being named Minor League Manager of the Year by Baseball AmericaIn 1989 Trembley served as manager of the Eastern League All-Star team on its Diamond Diplomacy tour of the Soviet UnionHe spent one year as manager of San Diegos AA Wichita team, in 1993, before rejoining the Cubs organization, where he managed nine years (1994-2002) at three different levelsTrembley earned his second league title in 1995 when he guided Class A Daytona to the Florida State League title, earning league Manager of the Year honors and being named Class A Manager of the Year by both Baseball America and USA Today Baseball Weekly...He also was named Best Managing Prospect in the FSL by Baseball America following the 95 seasonIn 1999, he was named Manager of the Year in the Southern League after guiding AA West Tennessee to a pair of first place finishes before losing in the playoffs... Trembley earned his 1,000th minor league win as a manager on July 15, 2001He managed instructional league teams in 16 of his 21 seasons in the minors and also managed one winter, 1986-87, with Navajoa in the Mexican Pacific League and coached third base the next two years for the Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League.

Trembley has a bachelors degree in physical education and a masters degree in education, both from the State University of New York-BrockportHe also did graduate work in sports psychology at Penn StateDave, his wife, Patti, and their son, Kevin, make their off-season home in Daytona Beach Shores, FL.
