COACHING CAREER
Over a six-year span with the Red Sox
from 2007-12, club ranked among the majors' top 3 in doubles
(1st, 2089), extra-base hits (1st, 3385), runs (2nd, 5011), hits
(2nd, 9196), total bases (2nd, 15002), OPS (2nd, .791), slugging
(2nd, .445), on-base pct. (2nd, .346), average (3rd, .273), and
walks (3rd, 3587)...Boston also led the majors by averaging 3.94
pitches per plate appearance over those six years...coached an
offense that had the majors' highest OPS figures in both 2010
and 2011, ranking 2nd in that category in both 2008 and 2009...
in Magadan's first year with the Red Sox in 2007, the club won
the World Series while ranking among ML leaders with 352 doubles (T1st) and a .362 on-base percentage (2nd)...the Boston
offense had 689 walks in 2007, which remains the highest single-season total by any American League club since 2000 and
marked the most free passes by the Red Sox since 1956 (727)...
was the Boston hitting coach in 2007 when Dustin Pedroia won
the A.L. Rookie of the Year Award and in 2008 when Pedroia
took home the A.L. Most Valuable Player Award...in 2011, Red
Sox hitters led the ML in at-bats (5710), runs (875), RBI (842),
hits (1600), total bases (2631), times on base (2631), doubles
(352), extra-base hits (590), OBP (.349), SLG (.461), and OPS
(.810)...in 2010, led majors in at-bats (5646), total bases (2546),
doubles (358), and OPS (.790)...the 2008 Sox offense posted a
ML-best .358 OBP and 646 walks...served as San Diego's major
league hitting coach for parts of 4 seasons from 2003-June 15,
2006...began coaching career as the Padres minor league hitting instructor in 2002.
PLAYING CAREER
Selected by the Mets in the second
round of the 1983 June draft...played 1582 games over 16 major
league seasons with the Mets (1986-92), Marlins (1993, 1994),
Mariners (1993), Astros (1995), Cubs (1996), A's (1997-98),
and Padres (1999-2001)...posted a career .390 OBP...primarily played 3rd (709 games) and 1st (593) base...tallied a .292
(610-2088) clip in 7 seasons with the Mets from 1986-92, the
4th-best career mark in club history (minimum 2000 AB) behind
David Wright (.300), Keith Hernandez (.297) and Mike Piazza
(.296)...finished 2nd in the National League with a .417 OBP and
3rd with a .328 average in 1990...established a Mets record with
a major league-leading .998 fielding pct. at first base that year.
COLLEGE/AMATEUR
Attended the University of Alabama
for 3 years and was an All-Southeastern Conference selection
in each season...in 1983, won USA Baseball's Golden Spikes
Award and was tabbed as the College Player of the Year by
Baseball America and the All-SEC Player of the Year after leading all NCAA Division I batters with a .525 average...helped the
Crimson Tide to the championship game of the 1983 College
World Series, batting .550 (11-20) with a homer and 5 RBI in 5
CWS games...was inducted into the National College Baseball
Hall of Fame in 2010...graduated from Jesuit High School in
Tampa, Fla...selected by Boston in the 12th round of the 1980
June draft, but did not sign.

David Joseph Magadan...married to Monique...
has 2 sons, Jordan (24) and Christian (21), and 2 daughters,
Peyton (8) and Avery (4)...is a cousin and godson of former major league manager Lou Piniella.
