Michael Collins is in his second season with the Astros, serving as a bullpen catcher. Collins joined the Astros in 2018 after a seven-year stint (2011-17) in the San Diego Padres organization, including a six-year run (2012-17) as a minor league manager. He last served as the manager in the Arizona Rookie League, holding that post for three seasons overall (2013, 2016-17). He also managed in the Dominican Summer League (2012), at Class A Fort Wayne (2014) and at Class A Lake Elsinore (2015). While with Fort Wayne, Collins led his club to a division championship and earned the Padres 2014 Jack Krol Award for his contributions to player development. Additionally, Collins managed his hometown Canberra Cavalry of the Australian Baseball League for six offseasons from 2012-18. In his six years on the job, he led Canberra to one Australian Baseball League Championship (2012-13) and to two second place finishes (2013-14, 2017-18). Collins is a former player, having played 10 years in minor league baseball with the Los Angeles-AL (2001-08) and San Diego (2009-10) organizations. He topped out at the Triple A level in 2009 and 2010 but had his best minor league season in 2005 at Class A Advanced Cedar Rapids. That season, Collins appeared in 100 games, hitting .320 (116x363) with 32 doubles, seven home runs, 64 RBI and an .894 OPS. Following his minor league career, Collins played two seasons (2010-11, 2011-12) for Canberra before taking the reigns as the club's manager in for the 2012-13 campaign. A native of Canberra, Australia, Collins originally signed as a 16-year-old minor league free agent with the Angels in 2001.
