Coaching Career
Enters his 4th season as the Royals pitching coach...Tutored a pitching staff in 2007 that posted a 4.48 ERA, 7th in the American League...the ERA was the best
out of a Royals team since 1994 and was a 1.17 run improvement from
2006...his 2008 staff matched the 4.48 ERA...Spent 7 seasons with the Rockies organization from 1999-2005, the last
4 as Colorado Springs (AAA) pitching coach...Spent his fi rst 3 years in the Colorado organization from 1999-2001 as the
pitching coach at High-A Salem...Prior to joining the Colorado organization, he coached his sons Sequoia
High School baseball team in Redwood City, Calif...Spent a majority of the 1994 season on the Florida Marlins Major League
coaching staff...also served as a Marlins scout in 1996.
Playing Career
Concluded his 19-year big league career with Florida in 1993the lefthander
also pitched for the Royals, Brewers, Expos, Mets, Angels and
Cardinals...Compiled a 68-57 Major League record with a 3.81 ERA in 698 games...Posted his best season in 1982 when he went 12-7, threw 5 complete games
and helped Milwaukee to the World Serieshe saved 2 of the Brewers 3
wins in the Fall Classic and also earned a win in the ALCS...Traded to Milwaukee in 1977 as part of the deal that sent Darrell Porter and Jim Colborn to Kansas City...Selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 3rd round of the 1973 January Free Agent Draftthen selected
by the Kansas City Royals in secondary phase of 1973 June Free Agent Draft and signed with the Royals...
