Coaching Career
Owen will serve as the Royals third base coach in 2009 after working in 2008 as Trey Hillmans bench
coach...He served on Hillmans coaching staff with the Hokkaido
Nippon Ham Fighters in 2007, helping the Fighters to the
Pacifi c League title and a berth in the Japan World Series...Prior to his stint in Japan, Owen worked as the Philadelphia
Phillies minor league infi eld coordinator from 2004-2006...He served as a scout for the White Sox, Tigers and
Phillies organizations from 1992-2003 after retiring from
baseball.
Playing Career
Owen played for parts of 4 seasons in the Majors with the
Cubs (1983-85) and Royals (1988)...the infi elder appeared in
7 games for the Royals in 1988, going 0-for-5 at the plate...Selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round of the 1979
June Draft.

Owen resides in Cleburne, Texas, with his wife, Yasmin...
they have two children, Haley and Courtney...Attended and played baseball at the University of Texas-
Arlington, the same school manager Trey Hillman
attended...Brother, Spike, played 13 seasons in the Majors for the
Mariners, Red Sox, Expos, Yankees and Angels.
