Marcus Hanel, 44, is in his 17th season as bullpen catcher. He joined the Brewers after retiring as an active player in 1999. Hanel played 11 seasons in the minor leagues for Pittsburgh (1989-97), Atlanta (1998) and Arizona (1999). He was selected in the 18th round of the 1989 draft by the Pirates. Hanel graduated from Racine Horlick High School in 1989, where he lettered in both baseball and basketball. This past offseason, he had his baseball number (32) retired by his high school. Actively involved in the community, Hanel has a charitable organization called "Koos For Kids" that helps terminally ill and disadvantaged youths in Southeastern Wisconsin. Marcus was born on October 19, 1971, in Racine, Wisconsin, where he still resides today with his wife, Jill, twin daughters, Ashley and Grace, and sons, Nathan and Levi. He is a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.
