• Selected by San Diego in the first round (third overall) of the 1982 June Draft ... went 43-39 with a 4.46 ERA in 153 games (118 starts) over parts of eight Major League seasons with the Padres (1986-88), New York Yankees (1989-90), Houston Astros (1991-92) and Montreal Expos (1993).
• Appeared in 62 games (54 starts) during his three years in San Diego, posting a 20-21 record and 4.04 ERA ... tied a Major League record for fewest hits allowed in a first Major League appearance, complete game, tossing a one-hitter in Houston on September 21, 1986.
• Pitched two years with the Tokyo Giants during the 1994-95 campaigns.
• Graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, Texas.
• Born April 20, 1964. Jones and his wife, Judy, reside in Highland Village, Texas, and have three daughters -- Faith, Rebekah and Hannah, and a son, Joshua.
